I am on a mission to make a couple of designer bag purchases this year but just buying a bag outright without research isn’t a (smart) option for me. The idea of “trying out” a purse before I splurge is genius to me!

First, I have to do some research. What brand and style am I looking for? There is much more to it than just finding the bag. Do you want to splurge on the bag right now? Is it worth it to you? Are you going to get good use out of it? With the option to rent bags, you can try it for a month at a low price so you can see if you are truly ready to spend the big bucks.

There are several benefits of renting before you take the plunge. Here are some things you should think about when you rent the bag:

  • You want to make sure you will actually wear the bag. For a month, you will be able to see if you wear it enough to make it worth it to you to splurge.
  • Does it fit your fashion sense? Some bags we see in the store or online, but getting it in person really shows you if it works for you.
  • Is it too big or too small? I am a tall girl so if I am looking for an oversized bag, I need it to “fit” me. Make sure the bag fits your taste.
  • Does it match your lifestyle? Take this time to see if you attend events that you can rock the bag or if it’s something appropriate for work. Based on your reasoning for wanting the bag, does it work for your life?

Renting before the splurge is great on your pockets! Instead of spending $2000 on a bag you may be over in a month, you can borrow it, pair it with a couple of outfits, and see how you like it during that time.

In the end, if you decide not to splurge, you can still rock the bag but pay a small percentage of the price. If you are ready to take the plunge, you now know it’s the best decision after trying it out! But…why not get a discount by purchasing a gently used option from Bag Borrow or Steals buy section? Either way, it’s a win-win.
